What Protects You?
There is a degree of protection that is only available by investing in registered mutual funds. By investing ONLY with funds that are licensed, registered and regulated you lessen your risk dramatically.
If you invest in investments that are unregistered or unregulated you forgo the protection of the regulatory body in that jurisdiction.
Please also be aware that unlike their onshore counterparts. Offshore funds are not required to carry insurance.
If you do find that you have been conned, in an investment, then your first port of call should be the regulatory authority in that jurisdiction. These regulatory bodies are also a good place to conduct research, as they have areas of their sites dedicated to fraudulent investments.
