Vanuatu 's climate is typical of the South Pacific. The climate varies from wet tropical in the north to subtropical in the south. The prevailing winds throughout the year are from the southeast.

The average maximum temperature varies from 27.2 degrees in July to 30.2 degrees in January. The average range of temperature during the day is about 8 or 9 degrees Celsius.
The average daily humidity for the year is around 83%. The humidity drops in the cooler months to about 72%. Most days there is a cool sea breeze, which keeps temperatures along the coast at a comfortable level.
The months of January to March have the heaviest rains. March on average has 21 days of rain. Port Vila has an average of 2300 mm of rain a year whilst the wetter areas of Vanuatu receive up to 4000 mm of rainfall.
On average Vanuatu experiences 2 cyclones (hurricanes or typhoons) a year. These tropical depressions develop over the Coral Sea west of Vanuatu and tend to move south or south-east. They are the country's worst natural disaster. |
